Information: Samuel (Sam) Delgado is vice president - External Affairs for Verizon New Jersey. He has overall responsibility for the company's relationship and interaction with municipal and county governments in areas served by Verizon New Jersey, as well as local, county and statewide organizations. In addition, he is responsible for supporting Verizon's lines of business initiatives in the state.

Prior to his current assignment, he was Director, Verizon Supplier Diversity responsible for providing procurement opportunities for Minority, Women, Veterans and Persons with Disability-owned Business Enterprises (MWDVBE). He and his team worked with national advocacy groups, regional chambers of commerce, supplier diversity councils and directly with a variety of minority and women-owned businesses throughout the country. His team supported Verizon's $1.78 billion spend with minority, women, veterans and persons with disability-owned businesses.

Sam is a retired Marine Corps Reserve Combat Communications Officer with 20 years experience having served during Desert Storm, and on the personal staff of New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly in the Republic of Haiti. His community affiliations have included past board member, Aspira Inc. of New Jersey, founding board member, Robert Treat Academy Charter School, and past board member of La Casa de Don Pedro in Newark. He is currently a board member of the Newark Museum, the Brick City Economic Development Corporation, the Newark Workforce Investment Board and the Rutgers School of Business Board of Advisors.

He is a 1978 graduate of Marist College with a degree in Political Science, a graduate of the Marine Corps Basic School, Quantico, Virginia, and a 2004 Leadership New Jersey Fellow. He and his wife currently reside in Newark, New Jersey.
